If you're thinking about a move to Yorba Linda, you are in good company!

CNN has ranked this beautiful residential community in northeastern Orange County, California, as one of the top 25 best places to live in the United States. Let's take a look at some if its interesting history and demographics, as you consider making this lovely city your home.

A Brief History of the City

Yorba Linda linda is Spanish for pretty was named after explorer Jose Yorba.

In 1809, Yorba obtained a land grant from the King of Spain for 62,000 acres. At the time, the area was referred to as Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana.

In 1907, the Janss Corporation purchased a large portion of Yorba's property. They changed the name and began offering parcels of land for sale to the public. Early residents constructed ranch homes and operated farms and citrus groves.

Agriculture remained the focus of the local economy through the Depression and World War II. By the 1960s, however, the area began to transform into a modern city with rapid population growth. It was officially incorporated as a city in 1967.

Southern California Climate

Southern California's climate is considered to be much like that of the Mediterranean.

We experience no freezing temperatures in the winter. In fact, the average temperature in the coldest months is around 55 degrees, with lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s. We see little precipitation, with an average of only an inch or two of rain each month.

Summers in Yorba Linda are generally dry and sunny. Temperatures range from the high 50s to the upper 80s. The warm and arid weather can last several months, often from April or May well into October or even beyond.

You can see why we call it "Sunny Southern California"!

Current City Demographics

Yorba Linda's population is nearly 65,000, with most residents living in family or married couple households.
